Western Petroleum Marketers Association
The Western Petroleum Marketers Association started in 1953 as the Intermountain Oil Jobbers Association. This was the name that was coined by the then President and Director, N. J. Williams. The organization underwent a name change on September 25 in 1964 and was changed to the “Intermountain Oil Marketers Association.”
Once again, the name was changed on May 28, 1985, when the members of the association voted to change the name to what it is now called, “Western Petroleum Marketers Association.” The main office of the WPMA is located in Taylorsville, which is a close neighbor to Salt Lake City, in the state of Utah, in the United States of America.
Partnership
The WPMA is made up of eight separate petroleum associations from eight states in the western region of the country. The states included are:
- Hawaii (The Hawaii Petroleum Marketers Association);
- Idaho (The Idaho Petroleum Marketers and Convenience Store Association);
- Montana (The Montana Petroleum Marketers and Convenience Store Association);
- Nevada (The Nevada Petroleum Marketers and Convenience Store Association);
- New Mexico (The New Mexico Petroleum Marketers Association);
- Oregon (The Oregon Fuels Association);
- Utah (The Utah Petroleum Marketers and Retailers Association) and
- Washington (The Washington Oil Marketers Association).
The association was initially formed from the states of Utah, Idaho, and Nevada, while Marketers from the then Inland Empire (Arizona, Montana, and Eastern Washington) then joined the association. The state of New Mexico then joined the association in January 1992, and Hawaii became members in 1993.
Each state has its association and a President, Vice President, a PMAA Director, and some area directors. They also have a state executive who administers state programs based on the direction the board of directors wants to move in. All these state associations are also members of the Petroleum Marketers Association of American, which represents the associations in national matters.
The WPMA was created to increase the effectiveness and profitability of its members. It encourages a high level of business ethics among the members and helps to improve the image of the petroleum industry.
WPMA provides resources for the training and education of its members’ staff as well as facilitating the exchange of ideas between them. They encourage the government to create regulations that would be favorable to the marketers in the petroleum industry as well as working to enhance the relationship between the different state associations.
Benefits
They also seek to provide cheap and beneficial services to all the members of the association, and it achieves all these by supporting the state associations through member services like dues billing, state convention registrations, state mailings, scholarship programs, and the WMI Insurance programs.
WPMA is headed by Gene Inglesby, who serves as the CEO of the Western Petroleum Marketers Association. The Executive Committee also comprises a President, Steve Clark, as well as three vice presidents and a PMAA Director. The WPMA holds a national convention for its members in February every year.
