Pepperidge Farm Distribution
If there is anything known about the Pepperidge Farm, it is that they bake. They bake all sorts of food products such as their leading, highly rated goldfish crackers which are baked with either whole grains or organic wheat. Other products from Pepperidge Farm (PF, henceforth) includes their multi-choice breads, buns and rolls; their famous, good-to-behold and tantalizing-to-the-tongue variations of cookies; finger-liking desserts and puff pastries; etcetera.
PF started in the late 1920s in the founder, Margaret Rudkin’s kitchen, after herself, her husband, – a Wall Street broker – and children moved to a property called Pepperidge Farm in Fairfield Connecticut, following a great stock market crash about the same period. Margaret had taken it upon herself to bake nutritious whole wheat bread with the necessary nutrients in place, as against the aerated white breads that dominated the market for the sake of her asthmatic son who had several allergies and had a hard time consuming most commercially processed foods. Ever since, PF has been the consumers’ choice of baked products, available virtually everywhere in the states, after going to market.
Baked food products from PF are sold in many cities in the country, in popular stores like Walmart and Target, as well as on PF approved online stores, thanks to both the bakers and the many distributors. The popularity, uniqueness and satisfaction derived from PF’s baked foods has given rise to the number of its distributors.
Good news is, there is room for many of such distributors if you are so inclined to the business of distributorship – and it doesn’t end there. Being an independent distributor of PF foods is personally and financially rewarding in that you have great confidence in the quality of the brand and so does its consumers, which in turn, enhances your business and helps in providing the very best services. A number of current distributors of PF foods are grateful for being part of the business, as many of them gives gratifying feedbacks about how PF has helped grow their businesses, how they get help from PF’s help-desk whenever they needed assistance, how PF has supported their distribution businesses for maximized profits and many more.
There are basically two types of PF independent distributors. Those that distributes PF snacks, such as cookies and crackers, and those that distributes PF bakery products like bread, roll and buns. However, there are also “combination” distributors who distributes both PF snacks and bakery products. Distribution of PF snacks and bakery products are usually to mass merchandizers, grocery stores, military commissaries and retail stores. Independent distributors have defined geographic territory within which they sell and distribute food products, and provide services to retail customers. This is done in order to maximize sales of PF products.
On weekly basis, depending on the sales volume, PF pays a 20% commission to independent distributors on all products sold for cash and retrieves 80% of wholesale value of inventory sold for cash. This means that for every product sold by a distributor without getting a physical (cash) payment, the distributor gets 20% commission on all weekly sales; and for every product sold for which the customer pays the distributor in cash, PF retrieves 80% of such on wholesales inventory value. A distributor’s income every week is based on amount of product sold within that week.
Just in case you are feeling entrepreneurial, it is quite easy to become an independent PF distributor. The cost of an independent distributorship is negotiated between the buyer and the seller. To purchase a distribution route, some initial costs are compulsory. This includes the cost of a special handheld computer and printer which costs up to approximately $5,000.00 depending on where the devices are bought, the cost of a delivery vehicle that is in accordance with food safety standards and the cost of insurance to cover public liability, property damage and worker’s compensation insurance where appropriate. The distributor is also responsible for providing receipt, handling, storage and delivery of PF products.
On behalf of those that wish to be a PF distributor but are short on funds, PF is in agreement with a number of third party lenders to provide financial support to such. With all these said, you now know how lucrative PF distribution business can be and one good thing is, you don’t even need to be able to completely afford the set up cost all at once – you could always walk up to PF third party lenders for financial support.
