North Dakota Petroleum Marketers Association
An association that advocates for the interest of its members through the promotion and enhancement of wholesale and retail petroleum businesses – this is what North Dakota Petroleum Marketers Association stands for.
The mission statement of NDPMA [as its widely known] has been upheld for years by the constant improvement of the petroleum business sector in the state of North Dakota. This has been achievable through the close monitoring of regulatory activities of the business at both state and national level with the side to side education and training of its members
The NDPMA was created in the mid-1950s by a group of marketers who came together as one and believed in numerical superiority. This numerical superiority and strength in numbers are one of the peculiar features of the association. A commanding stance during legislation at Petroleum Marketers Association of America through lobbying and advocating of members’ interests is another reason why this association will forever flourish.
It is important to note that the NDPMA was previously known as North Dakota Petroleum Dealers and Jobbers; it was reformed in 1989 and then named NDPMA. NDPMA today has over 400 members, with the majority of its members being small business owners, service station dealers, and a lot more.
The numerical dominance in NDPMA automatically means a secured interest at PMAA in Washington and lobbying on behalf of members of the association. This implies that the formulation of laws that would protect and help promote a business will be massively encouraged, and legislation that could damage business will be discouraged. The first-hand information straight from Washington to North Dakota is also a bonus of this association as it puts members at a position of enlightenment ahead of others.
There are multiple membership benefits of NDPMA; this is expected as NDPMA is a distinct association that stands out and serves the state of North Dakota. Such benefits include;
- A strong voice in Washington: this cannot be overemphasized. An association that fully communicates the wants of its members to lawmakers through a great stance, strong voice, and reliable representation is always the joy of members.
- Information: As a petroleum marketer under NDPMA, members are automatically entitled to first-hand information before other marketers who do not belong to associations. This keeps a close relationship with members of NDPMA and more intimate relationships with government agencies.
- Annual Convention: The yearly convention and meeting of NDPMA that takes place every October is an avenue for social and business networking, workshops, and educational seminars. Most importantly, a new board of directors is elected during this meeting.
- Quarterly Bulletin: NDPMA publishes a bulletin quarterly to keep its members ahead of and informed. This bulletin provides information such as ideas for businesses, federal and government rules and regulations, association activities, and a lot more.
- Seminars and meetings to update members and educate them on new trends, business strategy, and development.
- Weekly legislative updates, and NDPMA PAC Golf Scramble.
These membership benefits are what attract most of the petroleum marketers in North Dakota. It is also what maintains the standard of NDPMA and sets them on a level above other associations.
