What would the world be without grocery stores, without the grocer selling some of our favorite food items, candy bars, drinks. Some grocery stores are loaded with enough food items to last a lifetime, customers troop in almost every minute to buy one essential thing or the other. These food items don’t just appear on the shelves or isles of grocery stores; they are as a result of some tedious work by suppliers. Without these grocery store suppliers, the food items we love and clamor for cannot be purchased, hence the importance of these set of middlemen. Some middlemen specialize in different conventional grocery items while others focus on handling natural and specialty foods.
Grocery stores rely so much on these suppliers to fill the grocery shelves, they provide the consumers with different opportunities, the freedom of choice and a chance to try something new as food items are constantly improved upon. A grocery store or grocer’s shop is a retail shop that primarily sells food. A grocer is a bulk seller of food. Grocery stores also offer non-perishable foods that are packaged in bottles, boxes, and cans; some also have bakeries, butchers, delis, and fresh produce. Suppliers have a chain of network that dictate which products are stored in the warehouse, which as a result helps the retailer in buying the products at an affordable rate. The suppliers also help the store by providing information about shipment of next batch of products, keeping the store owners aware of latest happenings and trends in their area of expertise and delivery of food items that consumers are in need of. Suppliers bring consistency and reliability ensuring your grocery store never runs out of a particular product or food item. Once the food is in season, the supplier main objective is to get what is needed across to the retailer to sell to the consumers.
Foods change seasonally, however, some regions are known to steadily produce some kinds of food regardless of the season. As a result of the seasonal changes in food, suppliers attend local or regional auctions that eventually help them to foster close ties with local farmers before the growing season of some type of food like sweet corn, tomatoes, beans and others.
Suppliers also have representatives that liaise with the retailers to introduce them to new products as well as existing products. The essence is to figure out food products whose sales can increase the market value of the retailer. Grocery store suppliers are unique in their functions as they provide the retailers a leverage for the food products being supplied. Some of these products are supplied at a discounted price to the retailers to help them on sale and generate publicity for the food item. Through effective sales promotions, the consumer is intrigued by the product supplied to the grocery store thus exercise purchasing power to move the product from the shelves to the homes.
These tenacious middlemen have been known to support retailers and their grocery stores through prompt deliveries, sales promotions and supply of food items that consumers need at a particular time.
