How To Get Demeter Biodynamic Certification (Demeter USA) For A Food or Beverage Product
With everyone deciding to eat “healthy” today, food production companies now add Demeter Biodynamic certification to their list of certifications. Read through these four steps on how to get Demeter Biodynamic certification for your food or beverage product.
Step I: Send In Completed Certification Pack
Converting your beverage product from conventional to Biodynamic begins with a request application for the Certification Pack. The Certification Pack can only come from the Demeter office which should include your initial application details. This detail entails feedback from the request to provide the management certification of your conventional operations.
Your proposed (Farm Plan) plan of transitioning to Demeter should also be included alongside the management certification. The Farm Plan is renewed annually to ensure the Demeter office keeps track of your successful transition to Biodynamic food and beverage production. Following the submission of the Certification Pack is a mandatory inspection of your production facility.
Step II: Schedule A Production Facility Inspection/Visit
After a detail evaluation of your completed Certification Pack, the Demeter office suggests a timeframe for a mandatory inspection of your facility. Note that your application isn’t completed or reviewed without the payment of the application fee as stated on the Certification Pack. Since the Demeter office gets several applicants daily, it uses the payment approval for its screening.
The inspector from the Demeter office contacts the applicant (your production company) for a proposed visitation date. In most cases, the inspector gives you a time and date expecting your facility to be ready for inspection. The purpose of the inspection is to verify the details provided during your application process. Without the approval of the inspector, your request is not valid.
Step III: Follow-up On Summary Report Recommendations
The inspector’s visit is a vital part of your food or beverage approval for Demeter Biodynamic Certification. Report from inspection and the grower’s application are channelled to the board of Evaluation Circle (EC) for certificate recommendation. The Evaluation Circle is also responsible for drafting the requirements needed for your food or beverage product to be approved.
The EC’s decision and summary report determine whether your product gets the recommendation needed for the certificate. You can amend the scope and terms of your already awarded licence if you wish at any time. The due process is to forward the details of your edit, upgrade, or correction to the Demeter office. A revisit to your facility is rescheduled and changes made if approved.
Step IV: Get Your Demeter USA Certification & Annual Renewal Details
You get your Demeter Biodynamic Certification approval sent to the address included during the application process. Candidates can alter the address before the completion of the approval process. After a year’s validity, you’re expected to make a renewal of the certification by attending the Renewal Packet sent by Demeter yearly.
Your certification is only valid for another year and approved upon the acceptance of the fully-filled Renewal Packet. You’d be fined heavily or have your food products vandalized when you release a new production batch without renewing the Demeter Biodynamic Certificate.
